Hoops for Davis is an annual celebration of Davis' life through the experience of basketball. The event is designed to bring awareness to the Stanwood-Camano community by emphasizing community support and service. Everyone suffers losses and they are felt by more than family. The community often comes together and helps one and other when someone is suffering. It is a strong community that seeks to help out others during hardships such as death, fire, flooding, injury, financial hardship, etc. Thank you for helping our community and helping others through your service and support.
Basketball games such as Firemen vs. Policemen, High School Staff vs. Middle School Staff, Young Alumni vs. Old Alumni and Juniors vs. Seniors are played through the evening. At the same time, everyone is invited to bid on numerous silent auction items donated by members of the community, local businesses and sports franchises. Entrance to the event is free so the casual atmosphere and basketball games make this an ideal activity for families.
The night always starts off with the 5th grade game. In order to participate in the game, fifth graders must write an essay about their thoughts on community service. They are asked to answer the following questions in their paper.
Their papers are posted in the lobby during the event each year.
There are two reasons a game for fifth-graders was chosen. First, it is the end of elementary school and the start of a new adventure in middle school. Second, Davis was in fifth grade when he passed away.

Following the Fifth Grade game, Ireland and Savanna Woods sang an incredible rendition of our National Anthem. Then the typical Teacher/Firefighter, Old/Young Alumni, Freshman/Sophomore, Junior/Senior games were played. Thrown in-between all of those, and new (old!) rivalry was contested between the Nike and Adidas stores from Seattle Premium Outlets at Quil Ceda Village.
